Dancer, Choreographer, Anthropologist
The physical work begins with the need to trust the human being and the body, one’s own and that of others.
The projects grow out of anthropological research into the concepts of choice, perception and freedom, and into the role of technology and the digital world.
In performance, I was drawn to video for the possibility of documenting unique moments, in which the variables can never be repeated, and I use social networks to share them so that I can study the reactions of those who watch and comment.
I have devoted myself to practical and theoretical studies on the relationship between perception, emotion and attention, later extending them into a reflection on body and technology, and on the transformation of rituals and of the processes of emotional elaboration set in motion by digital interaction.
Bio
Choreographer, performer and media artist, with a degree in Cultural Anthropology.
Since 2010 her artistic work has focused on practical and theoretical studies of perception and attention, extending from 2014 into a reflection on body and technology, and on the transformation of rituals and of the processes of emotional elaboration set in motion by digital interaction.
Over time she has explored Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), projection mapping and a range of social media. In recent years she has concentrated on VR for the potential for embodiment this technology offers, studying techniques for transmitting choreography through the VR headset.
In 2020 she was selected for the training programme offered by Biennale College Cinema VR. Her work aims at a reflection on the conscious use of technology as an experiential and creative tool, doing away with the human/artificial dichotomy that tends to give the technological tool a negative value, and reading it instead as a possible extension of the body itself, and therefore able to “augment” the experience we can have of it.
Her projects include “Dance for Smartphone”, “The vulnerable technology inside of us”, “Improvvisazione in danza come spazio liminale”, “The world behind us” and “P2P, nuove forme di mancanza nell’era digitale”. She has worked with artists such as Company Blu, Iraqi Bodies, Makiko Ito, Katie Duck, Dance Elixir, MonoCollective, Yumiko Yoshioka, Zoya Sardhashti, Virgilio Sieni and TSKrypton.
Her VR project “Peaceful Places” won the 2021 Auggie Award, the prestigious XR industry prize, for BEST ART.
